# KOReader Clippings

If you read on a Kobo, a jailbroken Kindle, or any other e-reader running [KOReader](https://koreader.rocks/), your highlights are also saved to a `My Clippings.txt` file — AfterWord supports importing this directly.

### Step 1: Locate the file on your device

Connect your e-reader to a computer via USB so it shows up as an external drive. The location of `My Clippings.txt` depends on your device, but it's typically in one of these places:

* The root of the drive
* A `.kobo` or `koreader` folder
* A `clipboard` or `docsettings` folder

{% hint style="info" %}
If you can't find it, open KOReader's file manager on the device itself and look for **My Clippings.txt** — you can confirm the exact path from there before connecting to a computer.
{% endhint %}

### Step 2: Copy the file to your computer or phone

Copy `My Clippings.txt` to a location you can easily upload from — your Desktop, Downloads folder, or a phone's file storage if you're uploading from mobile.

### Step 3: Upload to AfterWord

1. Open AfterWord and go to the **Upload** tab.
2. Tap **Import from File** and select the `My Clippings.txt` file.
3. AfterWord parses the file the same way it does for Kindle clippings — matching books, checking for duplicates, and generating search embeddings.

### A note on format differences

KOReader's clippings format is similar to Kindle's but not always identical across device types and KOReader versions. If some highlights come through without a book title or author attached, you can fix this from the book's detail page — see [Manual Add](broken://pages/b7358f91a30a258ffa970fe18b8b9474f863cd9b) for how to edit a book's details after import.

### Troubleshooting

If the import fails or shows zero highlights found, see the [FAQ & Troubleshooting](broken://pages/452b0babce85b85b23d2ba28f411c359b4c6a229) page.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://afterword.gitbook.io/afterword-docs/importing-your-highlights/koreader-clippings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
